Chairman's Opening Speech for Harroell Play Ground

A warm welcome to all, Sponsors, Contractors, Parishioners and Council Members.

At last we are formally opening the new facilities on Harroell Recreation Area after a difficult period of weather which hampered the completion of works.

Our thanks first of all to the grantors, Wren, Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust and the Local Area Forum, also to Caroline Bevan for securing the grants, our Parish Clerk Grant Stevens who had the unenviable task of completing the paperwork and to John Hooper for his day to day interest in the site work.

A thank you also to the residents of Peascroft who suffered an amount of disruption whilst the skate park was being built, not helped by weather conditions at the time.

Last year we opened the new play area for younger children on the Recreation Ground and we now have facilities for older children here in the zip wire, the beginners skate park and the cycle track to add to the existing MUGA area.

Please adhere to the notices on site that set out the rules of use and the council and local police will monitor any untoward behaviour.

The site was secured some time ago on a long term lease so that there would be a play area for the use of local children and teenagers and I would now like to declare the area officially open. There will be a demonstration on the skate park and then a chance to win prizes.

Our thanks to Cllr Smith for preparing the refreshments that are available at the stalls manned by our Councillors. Please go and enjoy yourselves.

Thank you.

Richard Thurbon.
